I’ve talked a little about my personal knitting goals in 2016 – knit more, conquer sweater knitting, etc. – but today I want to share with you some of my thoughts on where Knitting Companion will go this year. What can (and should) you expect from this site as the year progresses? How am I hoping to better support you in your fiber journey?

Grow the Website

I have a ton of ideas for ways I want to expand the website, including adding a Resources section. In my sketches, this includes books that every knitter should have in their library, a “commonly used abbreviations” chart, and some pointers to key things I think every knitter/crocheter should know about. As I’m sure you can imagine, I could easily blow this into a section that would be overwhelming in its variety and usefulness, so I’m being really cautious about how I approach it. That being said, look for the first one or two pieces of the Resources section to appear before April. If you have ideas on what I absolutely should include, or questions about any of the content I post, I would love to hear it. If it’s not helping you, then it needs to either come down or get fixed, but I won’t know that without your feedback.

Release Key Products

I’m anxious about sharing too much on this too early, but I will say this: I’ve been working on a few things in the past month or so that I think will help you get organized, be a better knitter/crocheter, and that I think you will generally just LOVE. I have initial prototypes put together, and on my list of next steps is starting to get some feedback from the community.  I’m especially looking for people who typically take notes while they knit/crochet, and particularly designers.

Media

I’m also looking at going beyond writing to also doing either voice or video podcasts as well. I’ve been doing some research on this and the intimidation factor is dropping quickly for me. However, I won’t do this if I can’t do it well, so don’t expect to see this launch right away. It will probably take a little bit for me to get comfortable and to figure out what works best, so expect a learning curve here as well. That being said, I’m getting pretty excited about putting more of a face to Knitting Companion and interacting with you on a whole new level.

Binding Off

All this is to say that I have a lot of exciting things planned and coming for Knitting Companion. I know there will be bumps along the way, but I’m also really hopeful that I will make your life in the fiber arts better and more enjoyable. As always, if you have questions, comments, or ideas, feel free to post them here or to email me at teresa@knittingcompanion.com.
